Plea against demolitions admitted

hyderabad:a division bench of the ap high court comprising chief justice satyabrata sinha and justice v v s rao on friday admitted writ petition seeking stay of demolitions in the charminar precinct area. the writ petition was filed by dr k bawa and three others complaining that though the notification prohibits road-widening without clearance from the huda and heritage preservation committee, the authorities were demolishing buildings for road widening in the heritage precinct of chariminar area.they further contended that without conducting any comprehensive study about the underground tunnel to golconda fort and the foundations of charminar, the authorities should not have restored to demolitions and permitted new complexes. the petitioners said demolitions near charminar are incongruous especially as the state government is taking steps to get heritage city status from unesco. the bench recorded the undertaking given by the advocate general that steps as per notification will be taken. the bench directed the government to file a counter affidavit and posted the matter to next friday for further hearing.
